Blotting Papers

It’s amazing how effectively Muji Facial Blotting Paper Linen Mixed ($2.25, muji.us) works to blot up excess facial oil instantly, leaving skin with a fresh, clean finish. I’ve tried many different facial blotters, but these are my favorite by far. I love the minimal packaging, the affordable price and the ease of use — no mirror needed.

What's In Your Makeup Bag?

As a former beauty editor, I’ve tried ev-er-y-thing. And like most beauty editors, I have a low-key approach to makeup. So there’s actually not very much in my makeup bag. (My bathroom is a different story, however.)

My key take-alongs speak to my particular needs and obsessions. Your mileage will vary, but for me, it’s about keeping oily shine at bay and making sure my two makeup essentials — black smudge-able eyeliner pencil and a subtly tinted lip gloss — are with me at all times for the inevitable touchups and reapplications. I’m a big fan of roll-on fragrance, so there are usually one or two tiny scent bottles lurking in my bag as well. Take a look!

Lip Gloss Trio

I am always on the lookout for the perfect lip-colored lip gloss: not too pink, not too beige — just natural and pretty, with a bit of subtle sparkle. Clé de Peau Beauté Shimmering Lip Gloss Trio ($50, cledepeaubeaute.com) features three iterations of this surprisingly elusive shade. Available November 1st.

Tip of the Day: “Just because you have $1,500 set aside for your wedding dress doesn’t necessarily mean that you can buy a $1,500 gown! Tack on tax, and if you're not buying off the rack, you could get charged for shipping. You might need alterations too,” says Courtney Lutkus from Simply Radiant Events.

Make sure to leave yourself a little bit extra in your budget for all the other extras besides the actual gown, such as your undergarments, shoes, hair accessories and any jewelry.

Tip of the Day: Providing shuttles for your guests? Make sure that you have enough vehicles to move everyone in the most efficient way possible. Allot twice the amount of time that it would normally take to travel between locations, as guests need to board and de-board the vehicles and shuttles don't move as quickly as you would if you were driving!

"A 15-minute round trip may not seem like a lot in theory, but in practice, that's a very long time for guests to wait for the next shuttle. Think about what happens when you go to a restaurant and the server doesn't come over right away to offer you water and check in with you — and that's sometimes just a 2-3 minute wait. That's the same impression lagging transportation leaves on your guests," says Gina from Shi Shi Events.
