Hi BG brides! I’d like to introduce myself: I’m Stefania, the new wedding whisperer-in-training. As a real bride on a budget, I’m constantly searching for ways to cut wedding-planning costs without compromising the quality of the glamorous nuptials I’ve always envisioned. Two months before I earned my Masters diploma, my then-boyfriend Jason gave me the biggest shock of my life when he dropped down on one knee after five years of dating—I was finally engaged! I’ll never forget the feeling that swept over me when he opened the box containing my cushion-cut sparkler and placed it on my finger, seagulls cawing and waves lapping the shore where we stood. That night, as I tossed and turned and dreamt and wakened, reliving those ten glorious minutes over and over again, it finally occurred to me: we would have to start planning (and paying) for the day when we would proclaim forever in front of hundreds. Gulp…how were we going to pull it off?

We all know that being a bridesmaid can mean parting with some serious cash. Your pals not only have to shell out for a new ensemble, but they also plan both your bachelorette party and shower. Not to mention, they need to give you gifts for the shower and wedding! (In fact, many of you have probably been bridesmaids yourselves and know the deal.) They may even have to pay for transportation if your wedding is some distance away. When all is said and done, being a bridesmaid can cost several hundred dollars, so showing your gratitude is key. Make sure they know how much you appreciate all that they’re doing. Years ago, brides used to host a bridesmaid tea or luncheon, but you can certainly do things your own way to express your thanks. Take them out for drinks and dinner, or plan a barbecue or pool party. Book a day at a spa or plan your own spa night at home. It’s a great excuse to unwind, relax and reminisce.

Ahoy my matey-honeymooners! I’ve been on the road a bunch in the last few months and most of that time has been spent hanging with the Mouse. True story—I was at the Magic Kingdom for the 20th anniversary celebration of the Happily Ever wedding program and then I set sail on the new Disney Dream, the latest boat to join the fleet. (For more on each adventure, look out for the story in the September/October issue of your favorite wedding mag.) I love the Magic Kingdom; the suspense of disbelief and the idea that anything is possible (except for maybe a healthy meal) permeates the air. I love watching the Electric Light Parade, seeing the kids in awe of the princesses and hopping on those rides! Pirates of the Caribbean has always been one of my favorite rides at the flagship park. And to coincide with the premiere of the latest installment in the movie extravaganza, one of my fave neighborhood accessories design shops has created a limited-edition line. The pieces, which include scarves, bags and wallets, are available on the company’s website, haydenharnett.com, and start at $78. You may have to duel me for that Beautiful Dead Scarf—arg!

A few weeks ago, I surprised Husband with a long weekend to the gloriously posh One & Only Ocean Club on Paradise Island in the Bahamas. We ate breakfast by the beach, rode beach cruisers through the gorgeous gardens and fell asleep in hammocks. Our beautiful room opened onto a stone terrace and the greenest lawn, which overlooks the brilliant turquoise water. Check out our romantic welcome on the bed and that awesome tub. What you can’t see is our butler and—you guessed it—welcome bottle of bubbly. Needless to say, this island resort is aptly named.

What a fantastic celebration! From the parade of guests resplendent in their wedding finery to the happy throngs waving the Union Jack to the beaming bride and groom, Prince William and Kate Middleton’s Royal Wedding was nothing short of perfect.

And The Dress? Absolutely gorgeous! It was just as I imagined it would be and the style suited Kate perfectly. Despite her denials, Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen was the designer and although the gown was not as flamboyant and fashion-forward as McQueen’s dresses tend to be, it suited the bride and the occasion perfectly. (I have no doubt that Kate also had quite a lot of input in the timeless, classic design.) It reflected her elegant, more understated approach to fashion while still capturing the regal essence and grandeur of a royal wedding dress. I love that the dress featured long, lace sleeves and predict that this will now become a trend as more designers and brides opt for some sort of sleeve treatment. The skirt was beautifully embroidered and its fullness and train were ideal for the long, wide aisle of Westminster Abbey. All in all, Kate stayed true to herself and her half-up, half-down hairstyle, picture-perfect makeup, sparking tiara and diamond drop earrings (a gift from her parents) completed the regal ensemble to perfection. Well done, Kate! You were every bit the beautiful Princess Bride.

By this time tomorrow, Prince William will have wed his Princess Bride and all of the 24/7 news coverage will have died down…somewhat. In the meantime, news anchors and reporters regale us with the latest tidbits of information about the Royal Wedding. I have to admit that I’m quite impressed that Kate Middleton's dress and designer have stayed under wraps! Not even on WikiLeaks! We already know that Kate Middleton will be a traditional bride when warranted: She’ll wear a tiara and place a sprig of myrtle in her bouquet, as all royal brides have done since Queen Victoria. But we also know that she’s very much a modern bride and will set her own tone: She’s arriving in a Rolls Royce vs. a carriage and omitting the word “obey” from her vows. Along with many of you, I will set my alarm for the wee hours to tune in and take notes. And tomorrow I’ll weigh in on the dress, the details, the festive celebration and what trends we can expect to see in weddings to come. Enjoy the wedding!
