Riviera Nayarit appeals to Water Babies
On the west coast, Riviera Nayarit’s 200 miles of Pacific beaches promise spectacular watersports. And the nature reserve of Marieta Islands in Banderas Bay hosts sensational snorkeling and deep water diving. Surfers worship Nayarit’s beginner breaks, while humpback whales and their watchers migrate here from December until May. And turtle hatchlings’ first steps into the sea are celebrated in dusk ceremonies. Another Nayarit ritual includes trying the tequila (created nearby) and savoring pescado zarandeado, fish crisped over a wood fire.
At Hard Rock Hotel, all-inclusive suites feature balconies, bars and big marble baths to make a splash in. The on-site watersports marina offers kayaking, snorkeling and boogie board rentals. Of course, there’s a beautiful pool and golden sand beach (room rates start at $261 per person, per night and are all-inclusive; hardrockhotels.com).
Playa Escondida, a beachfront hotel in the surfer haven of Sayulita, features 25 rustic-chic hideaways where your lullaby is the rolling surf. When you’re done riding (or just jumping) the waves, laze in the hotel’s hippie-chic restaurant, bar and spa (room rates for the five-night honeymoon package start at $2,375 and include accommodations in the Luna Penthouse, two massages, a horse-back riding excursion, dining credits and more; playa-escondida.com).
