It's not surprising that DIY weddings are everywhere these days — making your décor, food, and even your wedding dress yourself can save tons of money and be really fun and satisfying. But just because you can DIY your wedding doesn’t always mean that you should. Here are a few reasons you may want to skip doing it yourself and just hire a pro.

1. You don’t have a creative bone in your body.
Just because a DIY project looks great in that picture online doesn’t necessarily mean it'll look the same when you attempt it. Not sure if you’ve got the artistic skills to DIY your wedding? Take on a couple of non-wedding projects first — such as creating centerpieces for a friend’s baby shower or letterpressing your own holiday cards — and see how they turn out. If they turn out fabulous, awesome! If they resemble a third-grade art project, you may want to skip out on doing bigger projects for your wedding.

2. You’re planning a long-distance wedding.
Trying to plan a wedding without being physically present can be a huge challenge on its own; figuring out how to ship dozens of DIY projects across the country to your venue might be more trouble than it’s worth. And couples planning from afar may not have friends and family members around to help them with wedding projects. Before you start stocking up on glitter, have a conversation with your fiancé about how much time you’re each willing to devote to wedding planning and DIY projects per month. If he or she isn’t willing to help you, DIY projects could become a big source of stress for you during planning.

3. You’re on a tight budget.
Though it seems counterintuitive, budgeting for a pro stylist or planner can actually help you save in the long run. Sure, it can be less expensive to create your own centerpieces…but once you account for the materials and time (researching, practicing, picking up supplies, returning to the store when you realize you forgot something — which almost always happens), you may have been better off just paying someone else to do it. And if your project turns out so badly that you end up paying a pro anyway, it will cost you even more. So figure out what your time is worth and take that into consideration when deciding whether a DIY project is better for your budget.

4. You don’t actually like crafting.
Many people treat DIY like it’s the more noble way to plan a wedding, but there’s no shame in admitting that you can think of millions of better ways to spend your time than crafting. And remember, most wedding pros are small business owners; you can support your local economy by paying vendors you trust and believe in to do their best work for you. If you’re looking for a creative outlet or a chance to learn some new creative skills, then go for it. But there’s no prize for brides who DIY, so don’t feel guilty if you aren’t into the idea.
