She helped me get ready, and handed me my lipstick when I needed a touch-up. We danced with her a lot, too. I hope she’ll have these memories for a long time.”

On the wedding day, Carrie watched from the ranch’s main house as her 130 guests congregated on a nearby lawn with a view of vineyards and distant hills. Once they took their seats, two bridesmaids, and two flower girls, Neil’s nieces, paraded down the aisle.

Together, the couple wrote their wedding vows, merging Neil’s Catholic background with Carrie’s nondenominational spiritual values. “The ceremony was so intimate because our friend Robin was our officiant. It was reassuring to look up during the ceremony and smile into her familiar, friendly face,” says the bride.
