Tip of the Day: Marriage licenses expire after a certain period and some states have a waiting period of one to several days, so make sure you plan ahead!

Marriage license bureaus generally require you to pay in cash, and in most places both bride and groom must apply together, in person. You'll need specific identification — in many states a photo ID (like a driver's license) and Social Security card will suffice, but other places may require a certified birth certificate.

The majority of states have dropped the blood test requirement, but some do retain it or another medical requirement.

Tip of the Day: For a creative guest book alternative, ask your guests to fill out cards with fun prompts (e.g. "What should we name our first child?" and "What is your favorite memory with the bride and groom?") and store them in a keepsake box. We love how this couple decorated their box with photos from their dating days!

Tip of the Day: Who says that your invitation inserts have to be matchy-matchy? Have fun with your paper suite by incorporating a couple of different design elements within the same color palette. For example, the beach-themed ensemble above includes an anchor, an octopus, an interlocking motif and nautical stripes. Don't forget to save one whole set to enclose in your scrapbook!

Tip of the Day: Disco isn’t dead! As part of your fun lighting effects plan, arrange for a retro light up dance floor that will get even the shyest wedding guests out there showing off their moves. Lighting effects companies can create light-up blocks in primary colors, and also perhaps in your wedding colors.
