Beautiful Bridal Gowns Designed by High School Students

Recently I had the honor of being on the judging panel for the 7th annual bridal gown design competition from New York City’s High School of Fashion Industries (HSFI) in partnership with Kleinfeld Bridal. The incredibly talented students, all from the junior class, created beautiful gowns that highlighted their creativity and design skills.

Tip of the Day: When planning a destination wedding, send out a dozen or so query e-mails to local wedding coordinators. Ask about their basic packages, availability in your desired time frame and the cost. And, always clarify the hotel's policy on using outside vendors before booking anyone!

Tip of the Day: Try incorporating sentimental pieces from your family into your wedding day jewelry look. Heirlooms like grandparents' or parents' wedding bands can be worn on your finger, tied into your bouquet, sewn into your dress or hanging on a necklace chain. "If you've inherited an antique brooch, wear it on a ribbon belt, pin it to your bouquet or place it in your hair," says Danielle Miele, Founder of Gem Gossip.

Tip of the Day: Marriage licenses expire after a certain period of time and some states have a several day waiting period, so make sure to plan ahead! Marriage license bureaus generally require you to pay in cash, and in most places, both bride and groom must apply together, in person. You'll need specific identification — in many states, a photo ID (like a driver's license) and Social Security card will suffice, but other places may require a certified birth certificate. The majority of states have dropped the blood test requirement, but some do retain it or another medical requirement.

Tip of the Day: When creating your registry, make sure you have a wide range of products at various price ranges. "No wedding guest wants to play a guessing game. If there are not enough distinct items on your registry, you not only have a good chance of receiving many of the same items, but you also may get gifts that don't match your style," says Kate Siegel of Kate Siegel Fine Events.
