Q. "My maid of honor is thinking about spending a weekend in Vegas for my bachelorette party. Are my bridesmaids expected to pay their own way and mine as well? What other options may be less costly?"
A. It’s very cool of you to be so considerate of your bridesmaids’ expenses. Although they would pay for their own airfare and accommodations, they don’t necessarily have to pick up the tab for yours. Depending on their finances, they may offer to pay for either your fight or hotel room or perhaps treat you to a special dinner or two, drinks or a massage or facial.
If you feel uncomfortable with this type of arrangement and prefer that neither you nor your bridesmaids fork over money for a weekend away, there are less expensive and equally fun ways to celebrate. If weather permits, consider a pool party, barbecue, day at the beach, horseback riding or camping. Or treat yourselves to a spa day followed by dinner at a favorite restaurant. Enjoy a night at the theater, a day at an amusement park or an at-home spa party coupled with a wine tasting. There are plenty of affordable options available for getting together, having fun and celebrating your friendship.
