Math lovers have been celebrating Pi Day for years, and this year marked a significant one — at 9:26:53 a.m. and p.m., the date and time together represented the first 10 digits of π: 3.141592653.
These numerical dates, like 11/11/11 and 12/12/12, and 12/13/14, have become popular for weddings, so it's no surprise that this special Pi Day — which conveniently fell on a Saturday — marked the perfect day for self-proclaimed math geeks like Kiana, an electrical engineer and founder of InvestDiva.com, and Matt, a rocket scientist, to get married.
"Matt brags about his ability to recite the first 20 digits of Pi without taking a breath. As for me, I was tweeting about Pi Day 2015 before I ever even met him," said Kiana. "As geeky as it sounds, it only makes sense that the two of us should marry on our favorite day of the century."
The couple exchanged vows in Hawaii, where Kiana walked down an aisle decorated with π:
During the reception, the couple cut into a Pi-shaped cake at precisely 9:26:53 p.m. — they even had a New Years Eve-style countdown to make sure they cut into their cake at the exact right second.
Each guest took home a commemorative t-shirt:
