Hello from sunny Singapore! I have always been what I call a sentimental fruit basket—I love the idea of incorporating small details that represent the powerful emotions of your wedding day. Today, I am going to share the little things that will make our wedding "ours," in the hopes that they will inspire other brides!
1. Honor Loved Ones With Your Bouquet
When The Mister and I first got engaged, he bought me this beautiful necklace from Etsy that says “Oui," which is French for “Yes” and coincidentally, “I do." I knew I had to work my way around getting this necklace to our wedding. After I found my dress, I was certain I would not be able to wear it in its original form, as jewelry. Therefore, I am tying it around my bouquet, as a symbol of my saving "I do" at the altar! BG brides, another bright bouquet idea we've seen is to tie on a small locket or photo of a deceased family member or friend, so that they can be there with you in physical form on your wedding day.
2. Sew A Treasured Object Into Your Wedding Dress
My folks gave me this ring when I was 16 and moved to Australia on my own to study. Ever since it was gifted to me, I have been wearing it on my right ring finger. However, on our wedding day, I will need to wear my engagement ring on that finger, which begs the question: Where would Mom and Dad’s ring go? After doing some research, I have decided to sew it to the inside of my dress, right where my heart is, as a symbol that my parents will always be with me. Kim Kardashian also incorporated a similar idea at her wedding—she sewed a heart-shaped piece of fabric from her late father's favorite Tommy Bahama shirt into her ceremony gown.
3. Add Meaning to Your Wedding Shoes
This one was simple; I knew I wanted to wear shoes in a bright color, but not just any arbitrary hue. Then it hit me —I could use The Wizard of Oz as inspiration! These red Badgley Mischka heels reminded me of Dorothy's famous sparkly shoes and represent the saying, "There's no place like home." It will serve as a reminder to me of my family members in Singapore that couldn’t make it to our big day.
Another huge trend right now is to have your bridesmaids and mom sign the bottom of your soles, so that you can take them with you wherever you go, even after your wedding day passes.
Theresa asks: What are your favorite details that you plan to incorporate at your wedding? How are you honoring loved ones? Do share, we'd love to hear!
