Hollywood hipster couple "That ’70s Show" star Danny Masterson and model/actress Bijou Phillips eschewed the aloof cool factor and went for classic tradition when they wed at a private castle in Ireland. The storied Ashford Castle in County Mayo provides a fairytale setting for any wedding, plus modern amenities for the A-list traveler.

Once owned by the Guinness family, the sprawling 13th-century estate has been a stately-yet-homey hotel since 1939. Acres upon acres (a whopping 350) of lush greenery are punctuated by formal gardens and framed by fresh water. Common areas are expectedly posh with grand woodwork, antique pieces and period artwork. Yet the overstuffed furniture (we especially love the leather club chairs) and cozy perches near large fi replaces are exceptionally inviting. The Drawing Room with its views of the Lough Carrib, Ireland’s second largest lake, and the property’s gardens, benefits from wonderful sunlight. Spend the morning simply taking in the scenery while sipping a frothy cappuccino. Snacks are on offer throughout the day; late afternoon welcomes the tradition of tea, featuring sandwiches, scones and pastries. The formal George V dining room (named in honor of the King’s visit when he was still the Prince of Wales in 1906) sparkles under 11 glistening chandeliers by Waterford Crystal.

Ashford Castle’s 83 guest rooms are all individually appointed, but share a Victorian style that references the hotel’s rich history. Located in the oldest section of the castle, dating from the 13th to the 17th centuries, the staterooms are the largest of the guest quarters and feature ornate ceilings, original fireplaces and sumptuous four-poster beds.

Activities here showcase the beauty and traditions of the property. There’s a lake cruise guided by the resident historian, a shooting range and archery clinic, as well as a famous falconry program. Horseback excursions, cycling adventures and long walks through the rolling grounds are also popular, as are the spa and golf programs (room rates start at about $230 a night and include breakfast; ashford.ie).
