On the Big Island’s Kohala Coast, quietly removed from other resorts, this boutique hotel comprises only four freestanding, generously sized cottages. Honeymooners love the privacy and the fact it’s mere steps from the beaches of Anaeho’omalu Bay. The indoor/outdoor Lava Lava Beach Club restaurant is joyfully crowded any night of the week, thanks to its live music, island-inspired menu and crafty cocktails. At happy hour (3 p.m. to 5 p.m.), enjoy bar bites and almost half-off cocktails (from Huggo’s Mai Tai to Gilligan’s Girl), $3.50 beers and $5 house wines (room rates start at $500 a night; lavalavabeachclub.com).
