The Inside Scoop on Bridal Guide's Race For the Rock

Here at Bridal Guide, we love to give back to our readers, so we hosted our seventh Race For the Rock, an NYC-based scavenger hunt for the ultimate prize—a $7,000 diamond engagment ring from of-the-moment jeweler GelinAbaci. The tension-set ring features a brilliant, round-cut center stone in a diamond pavé setting. Simply put, it's gorgeous.

The crowd was tense before the race began: The men (and women!) had each of their hearts set on the ring—not to mention a live televised proposal on PIX11 Morning News on Valentine's Day. While pacing around Bridal Reflections, a chic 5th avenue bridal salon, people anxiously texted or their cell phones or perused the ample selection of gorgeous designer gowns. Different strategies were being employed: smart phones (one man even downloaded a Map App), friends and family waiting by the phone to help deconstruct clues, and one woman even went old-school by toting a NYC Subway Map.

The first clue sent the racers over to the famed Wintergarden Theater, where Mamma Mia! (See Below for an AMAZING discount on tickets!) is currently showing. (How gorgeous is the bride in that musical, by the way?!) Those who made it on time received the second clue of the day, which sent them hailing cabs—some contestants actually buddied up and split 'em—uptown for The Empire Hotel, a veritable playground for CW's Gossip Girls.

The race made a quick borough change over to Brooklyn, where contestants met up with "hipsters who roll a strike or a spare" at the beloved Brooklyn Bowl, then quickly darted back to Manhattan's West Side for the fourth clue at The High Line, an elevated park made from refurbished subway tracks—that also happens to offer sweeping views of the Hudson River. Finally, racers received the last clue, which sent them to a place about which "Salt 'n Pepa did rhyme about a deed we do before bedtime." The place? The Museum of Sex, naturally!

Just being able to see the winner's sheer excitement was priceless--even the runners up all congratulated our winner! I wish I could tell you who won, but that's still a secret! He'll be proposing to his bride LIVE on Valentine's Day on the PIX11 Morning News. Don't forget to tune in!
