This just in: After nearly 65 years, iconic wedding dress designer Priscilla of Boston will be shutting down 19 salons and discontinuing all of its labels by December 31, 2011.
Labels that fall under the PoB brand include: Priscilla of Boston, Platinum by Priscilla of Boston, The Dress by Priscilla of Boston, Jewel by Priscilla of Boston, Melissa Sweet, Reverie by Melissa Sweet, and the Vineyard Collection.
An official statement released by David's Bridal said: "We are grateful to have had the opportunity to help women across the country look their best on one of the most important days of their lives."
Brian Beitler, the CEO of David's, added that, "At the end of the day, the decision is really based on looking at our resources and capital investments and looking to invest in Priscilla's sister division, David's Bridal."
They assure BG brides who have already purchased a wedding gown from them that it will be handled with the "same care, love and diligence" that they've upheld for the last three-quarters of a century. If you got your bridesmaids' dresses here and haven't completed your order, schedule an appointment ASAP — they'll be taking orders until September 12. Also put a reminder on your Google cal or cell phone that jewelry and accessories will be available at deep discounts during their closing sale.
We're extremely saddened by the news — we never expected that we'd lose such a well-established designer so soon. Priscilla of Boston was beloved by real brides and famous figures alike, including Grace Kelly and the daughters of President Johnson and former President Nixon.
Take a look back at all of their beautiful designs in our Priscilla of Boston Gown Gallery and read about Real Bride Crista's dress shopping experience there.
