My bridal shower was truly one of the happiest and most beautiful days of my life. It was hosted by my mother, Joan, and sisters, Lisa and Laura, on April 29th at a local country club. I spent the afternoon surrounded by my closest friends and family members. I had some amazing food, played hilarious games and enjoyed opening everyone's thoughtful presents.
My top three highlights of the day included:
- My mom’s heartfelt speech, which so beautifully described her incomparable love for Michael and I. There wasn't a dry eye in the house!
- My father, Richard, gave me a unique present for the wedding night: zip-up, fleece pajamas (complete with attached feet). Although my guests thought they were hysterical, I think he was pretty serious.
- The beautiful décor inspired by my favorite color, pink! My mother and sisters went for a Manhattan theme, complete with custom invitations featuring the New York skyline, prizes from Henri Bendel and black-and-white cookies for the party favors.
Words really can’t express my sheer joy and appreciation. My family and friends truly went above and beyond to make my bridal shower a complete success.
To help ensure that your bridal shower is all that you’ve hoped for and more:
- I suggest consulting with your mother, maid of honor, and/or bridal party about any particular requests you may have. For instance, breakfast is my favorite meal of the day, so I felt that a brunch party would be a fun way to celebrate my upcoming nuptials.
- We played a maximum of three games (some can be too time-consuming and monotonous for guests).
- We didn't include a wishing well and recipe cards. Although they're trendy with brides, they're not my cup of tea. Bridesmaids, don't feel pressured to include every single bridal shower activity you've ever heard of, especially if it doesn't tie into the party theme you've chosen.
- Brides, decide whether or not you're comfortable with receiving lingerie from your bridesmaids. If so, let them know whether you prefer to do a quick show-and-tell or you're okay with a receiving line of pretty underthings.
- We asked guests to “be a dear and wrap in clear," but you can also let them know if you want to keep your presents under wraps. Giving loved ones some direction will help to ensure less stress for them and showers of happiness for you!
